Did you guys have a list of frequently found problem areas on an XT6? Things to check that are special on the xt6 that a 4 cyl Subaru guy wouldnt know to check? Places they rust that are hard to detect, things that leak that are hard to see, etc?
How many xt6 fanatics have done a turbo engine build? (shortblock would just be change to EA82T pistons)

(shortblock would just be change to EA82T pistons) Buying a 6 shawn? Rust is usually found in the rear fender wells where the storage buckets are in the trunk. also in the front fenders... like the rest of the Rus. Power steering problems are common, but an easy cheap fix. Air suspension is hell... but also an easy, but not that cheap fix. lessee... everything else a 4 banger guy would probably know... 6's are pretty good cars. As far as a turbo build, a guy in the springs has one. Work for ProECM and is named Dave IIRC. He had some fancy ProECM custom AWIC on it and was running stock internals all the way to 15psi... Told me he felt safe at 7 psi on stock stuff with an intercooler, but no idea how long the HGs would last. Last I heard from him he was running just over 15 psi on turbo pistons and said it was "Porsche boxster" fast... Some one else is doing a build currently, check your own forum! and I've been getting mine together for like 5 years now...

Things to check that are special on the xt6 that a 4 cyl Subaru guy wouldnt know to check? not really, there's no major components that are different, all the basic checks still apply. some odd balls but not very major items - electric power steering, check the motor and fluid color/level. headlight washers in the bumper, they are nice in areas where salt/black rocks are used in the winter. speed sensors are common to throw codes but rarely cause problems. the common problem shows itself but throwing a code while maintaining a constant speed..typically holding a steady 75 mph on cruise. hit the brakes or gas and the CEL goes out - that's sure sign of speed sensor code. i've yet to see that cause an issue, but have seen it on quite a few of the XT6's i've owned (which is a rather large sample for one person). a slight delay in starting when turning the key points to the screw in the back of the ignition being loose and they eventually fall out. tigthen it. oil leaks, but that should be 4 cylinder too...

When I drove out to Subaru Chuck to fetch that free engine, he showed me a black flawless XT6 he has stored in his barn under a tarp. Seems he mentioned he was saving it for something. Never know, he might someday put it up for sale.
