With some trepidation I'm considering offering my wife's 1988 XT GL for sale.
This is a silver 1988 GL coupe EA82 5 speed car with around 190K miles on the car. The engine was replaced at around 170K miles with a JDM EA82T motor because it was going to cost around $900 for doing the valves or $900 for a JDM low mileage motor. The turbo, exhaust pieces and the like are with the original EA82 which would go with the car. It runs fine, and seems to have enough power even without the turbo. It gets around 25-28 mpg.
My wife can't drive it because using the clutch hurts her knee. It has a leak somewhere in the cooling system, I think one of the lines under the intake. The air suspension has reached a point where every time I get in it, I have to go under the hood and short the pinout connector to air up the driver's side rear. It doesn't always air up. I've replaced the passenger side rear, but it's not a job I want to do again. I had to pull out the driver's side interior trim to try and repair the automatic seat belts, but it was too far gone. I hard mounted the receiver and one has to buckle both the lap belt and shoulder belt. When I went to put the trim back, all the little plastic holders broke off and I can't seem to find replacements around here. Lots of little minor stuff that I just don't have the time or money to fix, despite really liking the car. When it came time to have to replace tires on the rear, along with getting ready to move to a new house, it became time to consider letting Ru2 go to a new owner as well.
so, upside, she has a relatively new engine and runs very well. Until I wore out the back tires, I drove her every day to work. The AC even works with R134 if you charge it every couple months.
downside is dozens of little niggling problems that keep her from being the really great car she should be.
If you think you might want her more than I do, make me an offer. PM me an email addy and I'll send pics.
Thanks,
John
